A three-day holiday shopping event at the Juneau Centennial Hall and the nearby Juneau Arts & Culture Center (JACC) held every year on Thanksgiving weekend since 1983. A tradition for the people of Juneau, the "Public Market" hosts vendors from every corner of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest who sell items of every description.

Her knits range from the Perfect Slouch to warm Merino poms, headbands, neckwear & warm hats for the littles. Willow will be returning to the Juneau Public Market for her fifth year and you can find her booth in the Hammond Room at Centennial Hall. We are taking you back to the early 1980s — the Juneau Public Market opened July 22, 1983. Yes, July! It was the first day five cruise ships anchored in Gastineau Channel. Thousands of tourists, and a huge crowd of locals, filled the lobby of Centennial Hall making it difficult to open the doors to the Sheffield Ballroom. Do you spot anyone you know in the crowds?

Who remembers three public markets a year? Through 1986, the Public Market was held in the spring, summer, and Thanksgiving weekend! It became too much of a good thing, and in 1987 we limited it to the Thanksgiving holiday market. Now it is a tradition for the people of Juneau that kicks off the holiday season!
